Smart Summer Travel: Safety Tips & Insurance Essentials for a Stress-Free Getaway
Summer is here, and travel is back in full force! We’re all looking forward to the slower pace of summer, spending more time outdoors (most likely by a pool, if you’re local!), and getting out of town.
If you’re planning to get away for the warmer months, here are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind when travelling this season:
Travel Safety Tips
We know it's fun to share that beautiful beach sunset photo, but we advise all our clients against posting live updates of their travel. Instead, save your pictures for a post when you have safely arrived back home.
Leave copies of important documents (passport, driver’s license, visa, travel itinerary) with a trusted friend or family member. If you happen to misplace anything while travelling, you can get copies with one quick phone call home.
We recommend you leave fine jewelry at home, but if you have a few pieces you prefer to travel with, place all valuables in your hotel safe. Please advise your agent if you are travelling with any high-value items, so we can make sure they are properly scheduled and covered worldwide.
If you are traveling for an extended period of time, have a friend or neighbor check on your property occasionally. A small water leak can turn into a big problem if left unnoticed.
The Importance of Travel Insurance
Travel can get expensive and the unexpected can happen. Travel insurance is designed not only to protect you financially, but medically as well. Below are a few coverages we recommend:
- Trip Cancellation and Interruption – If you need to cancel your trip before departure due to a covered reason— illness, injury, or a family emergency— you can be reimbursed for non-refundable costs such as flights, hotels, or tours. If something happens during your trip and you have to come home early, that’s also covered.
- Emergency Medical Coverage – Many people don’t realize their health insurance does not offer coverage while traveling abroad. Travel insurance can cover doctor visits, hospital stays, prescriptions, and even emergency evacuation if you're seriously ill or injured.
- Baggage and Personal Effects – If your luggage is lost, delayed, or stolen, this part of the policy can help you recover the value of your belongings or pay for essentials while you're waiting.
- Travel Delay – If your flight is delayed for several hours or more, you can be reimbursed for meals, hotel stays, and even transportation costs while you wait.
- 24/7 Assistance Services – Most policies offer a hotline for assistance finding medical care, replacing lost passports, or even getting legal assistance abroad.
If anything, these safety tips and additional coverages provide peace of mind so you can focus on relaxation and time off with family and friends!
