Swingle, Collins & Associates & Fireman's Fund Insurance Company are coming together to donate $29,055 to the University Park Fire Department

UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas – Every year across the country, heart attacks and strokes are responsible for killing 50 percent of the firefighters who die while on-duty. For firefighters, being fit is critical. Not only does it lead to a healthier lifestyle, it can help balance out the large amount of physical and mental stress they deal with on a day-to-day basis. However, in this time of stretched resources and budgets, fire departments often struggle to purchase important equipment to help firefighters exercise. Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and Swingle, Collins & Associates are coming together to donate $29,055 to the University Park Fire Department to help purchase necessary fitness equipment. With the donation, they will buy a treadmill, weights and resistance bands.

Studies have shown that a regular fitness regime can have a dramatic impact on firefighter wellness, with up to 71 percent fewer work-related injuries, a 43 percent reduction in sick leave, and a 25 to 45 percent reduction in sprain/strain injuries.

“A firefighter’s job is very strenuous and we’re committed to helping them maintain healthy lives and staying physically fit throughout their careers,” said Fire Chief Randy Howell.

University Park fire officials, firefighters, and executives and employees from Swingle, Collins & Associates and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company will come together for a special public event where the grant package will be formally presented:

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to more than 1,500 different departments totaling more than $26 million. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like Swingle, Collins & Associates, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

“Firefighters have incredibly demanding jobs and it’s important we support their health,” said Frank Swingle, president of Swingle, Collins & Associates. “We are happy to help in any way we can to show our gratitude for all University Park does for the community.”
